Bone Structure
Have a question?
Bone augmentation represents a useful measure
if the own bone is so severely degraded as a result of tooth extraction or periodontal disease that the primary stability of the implant is not assured.
Earlier, affected patients had to do without implant care. Today we can create through bone augmentation with autologous bone transplant or with very biocompatible bone substitute materials in many cases a sufficiently stable implant site.
Since the maxillary sinus is located directly over the teeth in the laterally upper jaw, and the bone structure is formed rather weak in this area, it lacks most of the bone. Therefore, the sinus floor elevation (sinus lift) represents one of the most reliable and most frequent augmentation procedures.
